Chorionic Villi Sampling (CVS)

In CVS, a small amount of placental tissue is removed during the 10th to 13th week of pregnancy for genetic testing to analyze cells for a variety of fetal genetic disorders. Genetic counseling is a crucial aspect of this screening test, with our trained counselors working closely with each family before CVS is performed to obtain a complete family history evaluation, and also provide educational information about the procedure itself. There are two different ways to perform CVS - the doctor performing the test will discuss the procedure and what to expect. All CVS screenings include a detailed ultrasound examination.
